Big man play, especially with footwork, but I also work to improve guard skills, especially court awareness and footwork.
More About Me
I have coached basketball for the past 8 years, in both Sydney and in Melbourne. I've been involved with high school, club level, representative and semi-professional basketball. Most recently I have been coaching at Diamond Valley Basketball Association, assistant coaching their Youth League Men's team. I hold a Bachelor of Sports Coaching and Administration, and I am currently in my final year of studying a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science. I am also a strength and conditioning coach, and I combine basketball skill training with athletic development. I am currently a sport scientist working with Essendon Football Club's VFL Men's team, handling GPS player tracking, load monitoring and strength and conditioning.
I played basketball in the prestigious and competitive GPS high school competition in Sydney for 6 years. I have played basketball in Sydney and Melbourne for the past 10 years.
Warm Up: Movement prep is a lost art in coaching. This is where I focus on the general movement skills, muscle activation and mobility required for performance and injury prevention. These principles are combined with fundamental basketball skills, so that every drill done is developing multiple skills at the same time.
Main Session: If this is an individual session, focus on ball handling, shooting, finishing, and using screens is the focus. If you can control the ball and get buckets, a coach is going to have a tough time leaving you on the bench. If there are multiple athletes, we then add in competition. 1 on 1, 2 on 2, and more situational based training that builds court awareness and basketball IQ.
